Some simple words I’ve learned which each share an initial kanji and its pronunciation with a city name.

• 大きい【おお きい】　 – large; loud
  大阪市【おお さかし】 – Ōsaka City

• 広い　【ひろ い】　　 – vast/spacious
  広島市【ひろ しまし】 – Hiroshima City

• 静か　【しず か】　　 – quiet; peaceful
  静岡市【しず おかし】 – Shizuoka City

Not included: too many places beginning with 山 Yama (mountain).

イ？いいえ、イイ！

• 高い　　　 – high/tall; expensive
• ビル　　　 – building
• ビール　　 – beer
• 高いビル　 – tall building
• 高いビール – expensive beer!

走る＋出す＝走り出す

Practicing grammar with some short (and uneventful) fiction.

田中さんは走り出した。
水でフグを見たんだ。

Mr Tanaka started running.
He had just seen fugu pufferfish in the water.

Now to make a bad bilingual haiku from it:

田中さん　　　たなかさん
池から走る　　いけからはしる
フグを見た　　ふぐをみた

Mr Tanaka
Running away from the pond
He saw fugu fish
